London Short Film Festival screening

I'm very pleased to announce that Crazy For You will be screening at the 2014 London Short Film Festival. It's part of the opening night strand called "Funny Shit". I'll be there! Want to come along? Here are all the details you need:

If you're UK-based, and missed the FrightFest and Grimmfest screenings, this is currently your best opportunity to see the short on the big screen. The Funny Shit strand is a 97 minute collection of shorts, which *starts* at 9pm, and I don't know what time mine will be on, so if you book, you'll need to attend the full event. But why wouldn't you? There'll be loads of great shorts there, mine will just be a surprise in there somewhere. Hopefully I'll see you there. Enjoy!

"Narrowly taking the crown from Paul Davis’ darkly inventive The Body was James Moran’s sublime Crazy For You, both of which – incidentally – starred Hannah Tointon and both of which delivered on their premise. The former centres on a murderer who uses Halloween to transport his latest victim in plain sight, while the latter is a twisted rom-com about a serial killer who gets an unfortunate urge to kill whenever confronted with polka dots."

"I was looking forward to Crazy For You immensely as I am a big fan of writer James Moran (Severance, Cockneys vs Zombies, Tower Block) . Crazy For You is his directorial debut and was wonderful. Charlie (Arthur Darvill) is a serial killer who falls madly in love with Jessica (Hannah Tointon). The trouble is that Charlie completely loses it when he sees polka dots (ever since he saw his father murdered) , and this is making dating Jessica very difficult. Should he tell her, keep it a secret or will it all come out in time?
Crazy For You was what I expected and even more. It has James Moran’s wicked dark sense of humour along with a stunning bright and vivid style that just lit up the entire theatre. A really great short film that shows what a great director James Moran will one day become. 9/10."

Screening in Telluride

Crazy For You will screen at the Telluride Horror Show on Saturday, October 12th, between 10.30am and 12.30pm as part of their second shorts block. Schedule and festival details are here, so if you're in the area, or attending the festival already, I hope you get to see it!

Screening at Manchester's Grimmfest

This Thursday, October 3rd, Crazy For You screens at GrimmFest in Manchester, the brilliant horror film festival that Cockneys Vs Zombies screened at last year. It's on at 8.30pm, right after The Borderlands (which I also did some work on) - so come see that too.

Crazy For You world premiere

Well, this is the big news we've been sitting on for a while - Crazy For You will have its world premiere at this year's FrightFest, my horror festival home where all of my other movies have premiered.

It'll be screening on Friday August 23rd at 4.15pm, in the main screen. You can find the details here, along with the other shorts that'll be playing - all of the shorts are attached to features, which means you'll have to get a ticket for Hatchet 3 to see mine. Single tickets are £12 again, but you should be getting a weekend pass or day passes anyway, because FrightFest is Horror Christmas.

I'm really excited and nervous, and hope it goes down well. First romantic comedy to play at a horror festival? Probably. First guest beaten to death at a horror festival? Possibly...

Backers at and above the appropriate level: don't worry, you'll still get to see it as soon as it's ready. We're just finalising various bits and pieces, but when it's all done, you'll get the Super Secret Link. Hang in there!

Project Updates

So there's been a slight issue with project updates, in that anything I post as an update to the Sponsume project page is supposed to be automatically emailed to backers. But! It doesn't seem to be working. In fact, I'm now not sure it ever did... Sorry about that! I just assumed you were all nodding silently, and thinking deeply about each update.

Hello again!

Been a bit quiet for a while, as there hasn't been much to report, but now things are moving along quickly, and I am happy to say that we have a picture lock! That's a fancy way of saying the edit is done.

But hold your horses, that doesn't mean it's finished yet. We still need to do the sound, visual effects (there are some complex effects that need to be decided on, then figured out, then done), music, grading (colour adjusting) and some other technical thingies that *have* been explained to me, but if I tried to remember them and tell you it would just embarrass us all.

The important thing is that the edit is locked, because none of those things could be done until after that, so now things can move forward much more quickly. One of many reasons why the edit is so important. I'm happy with it, and it's looking great. More news as it happens!

One more quick thing - please do check your name on the Backers page on our website here - some of you get credits on the short, so we want to make sure we've got your names right! And some of you might want another name credited, so please let us know if that's the case.

As soon as the film is fully finished, it'll go online as a private video with a password, which will be sent to specific backers at or above the appropriate level. You'll be able to watch it online, but not download it *yet* - after the film has done the festival rounds, you'll be sent download links so you can keep the film. When we have extras, we'll do the same for those, and give you early access to them. Later, it'll go online for everyone, but not for a while, so you'll have it before most people even see it. As always, I'll keep you updated. Onwards!

Editing complete

Our lovely backers should have just got an email with a project update, so go and have a look. The short version is: we have completed editing! Now for the sound, visual effects, music, and grading. Lots of exciting things still to happen, but now the edit is complete, they can all start happening at once.

There'll be another update soon, with a photo, so keep an eye out for that. Once you've seen the film itself (see update for details) then the rest of the packages will start going out - for backers who chose script options, we don't want to send you the script before you've seen the film, as it'll spoil the surprise!

Update to the update (not the planned update, this is a new update *before* that update): Looks like the emails haven't gone out yet, apparently project updates are automatically emailed to all backers, but something must have got stuck. It's on the project page itself, go here and click on Updates - and if you weren't sent *any* emails, you can read the previous updates too. The word "update" has now lost all meaning.
